Join our team of volunteers

We rely heavily on our members and other volunteers to maintain this Canberra-based railway – vintage trains on the Michelago Tourist Railway, long-distance tour trains, Canberra Railway Museum and our CountryLink ticket agency at Queanbeyan.

While running a railway is complex and must meet government safety standards, it is also very satisfying.

Dozens of volunteers from Canberra, Queanbeyan and surrounding communities all contribute to maintaining this railway presence.

While some of our volunteers have worked on the railways, most are people who do not have a professional railway background.

But they enjoy trains and want to see this important part of our history preserved.

Many (but not all) volunteers also become members of our Society, which gives them a subscription to our monthly magazine, Federal City Express, and the chance for travel discounts.
