Steam Locomotive 2413
The 2-6-0 steam locomotive 2413, built in 1891 by Dübs and Company of Glasgow, worked for more than 80 years with the NSW Railways and the Electricity Commission of NSW.
The engine began life with the NSW Railways and provided power mainly for freight trains at country centres, including Lithgow, Cowra, Harden, Temora, Moree and Narrabri.
In the last years of World War Two, it was loaned to Australian Iron and Steel at Port Kembla. After the war, 2413 returned to NSWGR service, to work from Harden until suffering a burnt boiler while working the Boorowa branch line in 1947.
After repair, there was a return to service including a period on loan to the Gunnedah Colliery. She was retired from the NSWGR in 1960, after almost 70 years of service.
She was then sold to the Electricity Commission of NSW to work at Bunnerong power station in Sydney, to work as locomotive No. 6.
Her service life ceased in 1975 as a result of a cracked firebox shell. When the railway serving the station closed, it was donated at the Society in Canberra, in 1976.
For six years, 2413 was part of the static displays at Canberra Railway Museum. Since 2002 she has been on loan to the Regional Heritage Transport Association (RHTA) at Junee for display at the Junee Roundhouse.
