Steam Locomotive 530

Three engines (numbered 127 to 129) built in 1879 by the Vulcan Foundry, Lancashire - together with three other Manning Wardle engines - formed the NSW's P127 class of locomotives.

These engines worked the Yass Tramway from its opening in 1892 until 1910.

Vulcan locomotive 530, originally numbered 128, was renumbered in 1897.

After finishing service at Yass, it was sold to the Commonwealth Government who used it for several years in the construction of the Jervis Bay breakwater.

In the early 1930s, it was sold to Kallingo Colliery, serving there until decommissioned to a disused siding.

The remains were rescued in 1983, from the by-then overgrown siding, by members of the Richmond Vale Museum at Kurri Kurri, and exhibited on a plinth at that museum until placed on loan and transported to Yass in September 1992.

At present, the unrestored 530 is exhibited at Yass Railway Museum as the only remaining relic of the three Vulcans, P127 class, the founding work horses of the Yass Tramway.
