Diesel-hydraulic Locomotive 7315

Diesel-hydraulic locomotive 7315 is one of two 73 class diesel-hydraulic locomotives used by the ACT Division of the Australian Railway Historical Society.

7315 is a Bo-Bo (two twin-axle bogies) 650hp locomotive manufactured by Walkers Ltd in 1970. It was purchased by the ARHS in 1990 and has since been returned to service.

Late in 2000, following restoration work, 7315 started trials but was found to have overheating problems. The locomotive's radiators received much attention, however the problem was finally resolved with some expert attention to its diesel engine - fuel metering was found to significantly off specification.

Today, 7315 and/or sister locomotive 7319 is frequently the lead locomotive for trains on the the Canberra-Bungendore run, particularly in summer time during the fire season when it is not practical to operate steam locomotives.

7315 has been named John K. Gill in honour of the restoration work on this locomotive by a former life member of the Society.
