BAS Ballast Hoppers

The Society's BAS ballast hoppers are 4-wheel vehicles formerly owned by the Commonwealth Railways which at one time maintained the Queanbeyan-Canberra line.

BAS 600, 602, 623, 624 and 625 were all built by Gray Brothers at Port Adelaide in 1915 and were used for line construction and maintenance in the early days of the Trans-Australia Railway.

To help maintain the Commonwealth Railways' Canberra-Queanbeyan line, the hoppers were based in Canberra from 1967.

They were acquired by the Society in 1986.
