First Class Sitting Car BDS 2226

BDS 2226 is an air-conditioned, first class sitting car which has seen extensive service on NSW express passenger trains.

The all-steel car was built by Tulloch Ltd of Rhodes, NSW in June 1949, and entered service in November 1949 with a code of BH.

As part of HUB set 119, the car saw service on the Newcastle Flyer, South Coast Daylight Express and the Central West Express.

The car has vestibules and toilets at both ends.

The original seating format was 2+1 rotating seats with individual reclining backs, giving a seating capacity of 36. In 1964, this capacity was increased to 48 by changing to a 2+2 seating arrangement.

The car was withdrawn from service in 1994 and stored at Goulburn until purchased by the Society in November 1999.

The Society plans to restore this car and return it to service.
