BVS 2166 was built in 1937 as a BS first class sitting car, converted to a BSR car with buffet facilities in 1965 and then in 1979 became an open saloon inter-urban car with high-capacity seating.
When it first entered service as BS 2166, it seated 42 people in seven compartments.
In October 1965, three compartments were dismantled and a buffet installed for use on the Brisbane Express, which meant the car could seat 24 passengers and provide improved food services.
A further change occurred in 1979 when the car's compartments and buffet were removed, and 2-plus-2 seating installed in two open saloons. As IFS 2166, this 72-passenger car was used mainly on Sydney-Gosford services.
After it was withdrawn from service, the car was purchased by the Society in 1989 and the seating removed to provide a dance car for dinner / dance trips to Tarago and to Royalla/Michelago on the Michelago Tourist Railway. It has been recoded to BVS 2166.
The car is gas heated, and electric power is available for use by on-board bands or DJs. This car is also made available for charters involving seminars and meetings.
