BX Ballast Regulators

Two Canron ballast regulators, BX 057 and BX 058, are located at Canberra Railway Museum.

Built in 1990, they were acquired in 2000 to assist with maintaining the track within the Canberra Railway Museum yard and on the Michelago Tourist Railway.

They are 7 metres long and weight almost 10 tonnes. Their role is to retrieve ballast which has spread away from the track, spread ballast between sleepers using a front-end plough, and sweep the sleeper tops clean.

When required, one of the regulators accompanies track crews and other equipment working on the Michelago Tourist Railway.
