Passenger / Refreshment Car HFO 1276
HFO 1276 is one of four set 52 passenger cars used on the Michelago Tourist Railway. It is a centre-aisle car equipped to carry 26 passengers and provide light refreshments including hot drinks.
It was originally built to meet Sydney suburban system rolling stock needs but was converted in 1935 to its current "tourist"-style (with facing seats) format for inter-urban travel.
The carriage was further modified in 1953, when a large guard's compartment was added, replacing seating in one half of the car.
HFO 1276 was retired from the NSW rail system in 1974 and was acquired by the Society the following year along with other set 52 cars, which were then introduced to heritage train trips.
After this carriage came to the Society, the guard's compartment area was converted into a refreshment and souvenir sales area.
In the early 1990s, HFO 1276 was overhauled and safety gates were installed on the end-platforms. |
