Express Passenger Brake Van LHY 1619
LHY 1619 began life in 1911 as a composite branchline car (coded ACX) providing first class, second class and sleeping accommodation, with separate doors to each section.
The ACX carriages saw service to centres as diverse as Gulgong, Grenfell, Canberra, Walgett and Barraba.
Ten of the ACX car underframes were give new brakevan bodies during the early 1960s and were coded LHO brakevans. They had a centre guard's compartment, with areas for freight on either side.
Between 1983 and 1985, seven of these vans were given high-speed, roller-bearing bogies to allow them to run on interstate expresses between Sydney and Melbourne. At this time, they were recoded LHY.
LHY 1619 came into the Society's care in 1990, and is currently used as a storage van at Canberra Railway Museum.
