MHG Brake Van
MHG vans are steel brake vans with the usual provision for light freight but also with accommodation to carry passengers.
The 200 MHG vans built between 1951 and 1953 had a passenger compartment at one end, a guard's compartment, a general goods compartment and a louvred perishable goods area.
They were built by Metropolitan Cammell in Britain and assembled in Australia by Clyde Engineering.
MHG vans saw regular service on passenger trains to Canberra and Cooma.
MHG 11823, built in 1953, remains operational for use on ARHS (ACT) trains.
