Luggage Van MHN 2366

Built by Commonwealth Engineering in 1962 as the last in an order for three vans, and fitted out at the Eveleigh workshops, MHN 2366 was designed for express inter-state passenger services.

The stainless steel van had two 4-wheel bogies, and included a guard's compartment in the centre of the van, two luggage compartments either side, and a coffin chamber.

Originally coded MHN 2366, it was part of the make-up of the Southern Aurora and Spirit of Progress expresses running between Sydney and Melbourne.

In 1991, the van was rebuilt for departmental use with a walk-through doorway at one end, and recoded AHO 2366. It was used for the Railway Commissioners' train and other specials, as well as regular passenger trains.

The Society received AHO 2366 on loan from Rail Services Australia in late 2001.

In 2007, it was returned to service as MHN 2366 and is now in use for crew accommodation and storage on the Society's long-distance trains.
