Refrigerated Van NRMA 25076

Built in 1945, NRMA 25076 is a 4-wheel bogie refrigerated van which used blocks of ice to cool its interior for the carriage of perishables such as fruit and vegetables.

It was one of 50 MRC vans built by Waddington (later Commonwealth Engineering) between 1944 and 1946. It had insulated sides and ends and ice compartments at each end.

The van itself weighed 30.4 tons and could carry a further 18.6 tons of freight.

After being withdrawn from NSW rail service, NRMA 25076 was bought by the Society in 1984.

It is currently being used as a storage van at Canberra Railway Museum.
