Accident Crane X 1055

The X 1055 accident crane was built by Ransome Rapier of Ipswich, England, in 1914 as a 35 ton steam-powered, self-propelled accident crane.

It entered service as LO 12 on 26 May 1915 and was renumbered X 1055 in 1924.

It is almost 30 feet in length and 9 foot wide. It has five axles, two of them powered, with axle weights ranging from 12.5 to just over 14 tons.

The crane also has two accompanying flat wagons.

The first, now coded L 531, is a bogie wagon used to store the crane jib. It was built by Tulloch Ltd.

The second, coded L 701, is a bogie support wagon carrying associated equipment for the accident crane.
