Bungendore Spring Fair Heritage Train

Diesel locomotive 7315 and tour train

2008 departure:

Timetable:

Fares:

Why not take a day out and enjoy a thrilling vintage train ride on the scenic line from Canberra to Bungendore aboard the Bungendore Spring Fair Heritage Train?

This is a fun journey for all the family with time to take in the Bungendore Spring Fair which has something for everyone.

A stop-over at Bungendore leaves plenty of time to experience the features of the Spring Fair at Bungendore School (next to the railway station), enjoy a picnic or visit the village.

The Spring Fair will have something for everyone - expected activities are sheepdog handling, sheep shearing, dog flyball, equestrian display, jumping castle, giant slide, wildcare animals, auction, raffle, a huge trash 'n treasure, children's activities, market stalls, entertainment, food and drinks.

Among the children's activities will be golf putting, quoits, 'Beat the Goalie', 'Pop the Balloon', archery, pillow fights, apple bobbing, lucky sticks, dangling doughnuts, 'Cow Pat Lotto', face and nail painting, chocolate wheel, Christmas crafts and plaster shape painting.

On the train, you will be well looked after by Society volunteers, who will point out the line-side scenic attractions, and explain the safeworking and signalling systems that ensure safe operation throughout your journey.

The train traverses the rugged Molonglo Gorge, passes through three tunnels and crosses two major bridges before arriving at Bungendore.

Travelling in restored heritage carriages, parents often recall travelling in the same type of trains during their childhood.

And children are soon pre-occupied by the scenery and the wild and farm animals which are found alongside the line.

Please note: We plan to use a steam locomotive on this run, but fire restrictions or unavailability of a steam locomotive means we will substitute a heritage diesel engine.

What to bring

The train includes a refreshment car, which offers hot drinks (tea, coffee), cold soft drinks and fruit juices, and a selection of confectionery, all at very reasonable prices. You can also eat at the Spring Fair (there will be a barbecue, cakes, crepes, gourmet coffee, Devonshire teas, soft drinks, gelato, ice creams, fairy floss and 'spiders').

Or you are welcome to bring your own hamper for a country picnic, or to lunch in Bungendore. Don't forget your camera!

Space for small folding strollers is available close to your seat. Please enquire about wheelchair access when booking.

Making a booking

As this train is popular, we advise you to book ahead. Or - subject to seats being available - you can purchase tickets on the train.
