Special Sunday menu for a special person!
Are you looking for a novel way for the family to pamper Mother? We’ve been running on this date over the past four years and have each time sold every seat.
The reason is that a brunch, combined with a scenic train journey through the hills near Canberra, is an ideal way to celebrate Mother’s Day.
Our train leaves Canberra Railway Station (Wentworth Avenue, Kingston) at 10.30am, and picks up at Queanbeyan Railway Station (Henderson Street) at 10.45am. The carriages will be heated if the weather requires.
A little while after we leave Queanbeyan, the main course will be served as we climb at a sedate pace through the rugged Molonglo Gorge, travelling through two tunnels and over two major bridges before entering the Lake George Valley.
There is a third tunnel at the crest of the Great Divide before we reach historic Bungendore Railway Station at about 11.55am.
There’s time to stretch your legs and visit Bungendore’s shops including the fabulous Wood Works Gallery before the train departs at 12.45pm for the return trip.
Your dessert plus tea or coffee (soft drink for the children) will be served as we climb Pine Range and head back home through the Molonglo Gorge.
The train is fully licensed and an excellent range of reasonably-priced wine, pre-mixed drinks and beers is available on board. BYO is not permitted, and the train is non-smoking throughout.
Arrival back in Queanbeyan is scheduled for 2.10pm, where there’s a five-minute stop before we continue to Canberra for an arrival at 2.30pm.Sample menu
