Diesel Train Trips from Canberra
The ARHS (ACT) operates excursion trains from Canberra / Queanbeyan north to Bungendore, and to other NSW destinations.
In summer, local excursion trains are hauled by restored diesel locomotives (once the fire danger period is over, these trains are usually headed by a steam locomotive restored by Society members).
Diesel-hydraulic locomotive 7319 is a 650hp locomotive manufactured by Walkers Ltd in 1970. It was bought by the ARHS in 1990, and hauls many of the Society's local trains.
Other diesel locomotives operated by the Society include diesel-hydraulic 7315, diesel-electric 4807, and diesel-electric D25 (a 400hp English Electric locomotive, built in 1958 and used for yard shunting).
4807 is often teamed up with more powerful locomotives from other operators for long distance trips.
The Society also operates CPH diesel rail motors, affectionately known as 'Tin Hares.' These operate short trips on the last Sunday of each month, and longer trips at special times such as Easter. For more information, see:
