Valentine's Day  RailRoad Restaurant

Saturday, 14 February 2009

Looking for a Valentine's Day venue with a difference?

What about taking a nostalgic trip on the Valentine's Day RailRoad Restaurant train, and let the romance of good old-fashioned rail travel set the scene for a wonderful evening with your beloved?

Dining car passengers

Enjoy the aura of a bygone era of train travel, combined with a professionally-prepared, three-course meal.

Our train takes a leisurely run through the scenic Molonglo Gorge before travelling through tunnels and farmland to reach Bungendore.

We make the most of daylight saving, travelling through scenic countryside with great views before we arrive at Bungendore, where you can stretch your legs while the engine changes ends for the return journey.

The restaurant train features full waiter service, and an excellent range of reasonably-priced wines, pre-mixed drinks and beers are available on board. BYO is not permitted.

During the course of your journey, your entrée, main course and dessert will be served to your reserved table seats, your choice of dishes being pre-ordered at the time of booking.

The Valentine's Day RailRoad Restaurant dinner train departs Canberra Railway Station, Kingston, at 6.15pm, pausing at Queanbeyan at 6.30pm.

In common with all trains in NSW, smoking is not permitted on board but there are suitable pauses at Queanbeyan (both directions) and at Bungendore (25 minute stopover).

Your restaurant arrives back in Queanbeyan at about 9.30pm, and in Canberra at 10pm.

Great value at $89 per person (2008 price, subject to change).

Menu choices

Our on-board chefs provide a wonderful three course meal. The following is a sample menu (the actual menu for our 2009 trip will be published closer to the time of travel):

Entrée
Marinated seared prawns with bruschetta, or
Zucchini eggplant timbale with roasted tomato basil sauce

Main course
Roasted beef with red wine sauce and buttered steamed vegetables, or
Ricotta stuffed chicken breast with basil dressing

Dessert
Cappuccino cheesecake, or
Strawberries and cream gateaux.

All meals are followed by coffee or tea, with after-dinner mints.

Please advise us at the time of booking of any special dietary requirements.

Bookings

Bookings are welcome for any number of people. Our table settings on the train are for 2, 4 or 6 people, and we accommodate groups of 8 at adjacent tables separated only by the carriage centre aisle.

Talk with us if you are arranging a birthday party or celebrating an anniversary, because depending on the size of your group, we can arrange your own half or full carriage, and this can also attract a small discount.

More details on this special evening trip will be published on this website closer to the time of travel.
